AbstractThe Belles and Littleman INH spot paper test was evaluated among 100 high school students. Such student received a single tablet of INH (lOOmg.) on two consecutive days corresponding to a dose of 1.9-4.4 mg/kg. body weight. Urine was sampled from the student body at 1, 3, 24, 26, 28, and 44 hours after ingestion. Data for 77 students were available for analysis. The test became positive shortly after ingestion and remained positive in 90% of all students for the next 24 hours. The reactions were easy to read. Between-reader variation as well as within-reader variation was estimated not to exceed 5% during a 24-hour observation period. The test appears simple, inexpensive, sen- sitive, and reliable. It can be a useful attri- bute in the evaluation of INH mass medication.
