AbstractOBJECTIVE: To study the smoking behavior in different classes of students residing in hostels of AMU ,the factors associated with it and its implications. METHOD: 200 students of different age groups were given a questionnaire. Information regarding age of onset, associated factors ,pattern of smoking and problems due to it was obtained. The data were analyzed, compared amongst themselves. RESULT: The age of onset is mostly 14-17 yrs. An increasing frequency of smoking and health problems with increase in class was found CONCLUSION: Students of 14-17 yrs. should be targeted for efficient prevention of smoking.
