The central role of platelets in the genesis of stroke emphasises the importance of an early and sustained antiplatelet therapy. In this paper the role of clopidogrel for prevention of subsequent stroke has been discussed. Various clinical trials have approved the efficacy of clopidogrel for significantly decreasing the risk of the composite outcome of death from cardiovascular causes, nonfatal myocardial infarction or stroke as well as a range of related ischaemic events.
