In the beginning of the 20th century, lung cancer was a rare disease. Over the past 25 years, its annual incidence and mortality rates have both risen. Now, it has become the world’s most frequently lethal cancer, causing > 150,000 death in USA in 2001. It is a leading cause of cancer deaths in males in developing countries also. In females the incidence is still increasing.
