Case finding programme among cycle rickshawmen and hand cart pullers was under-taken in the city of Madras. 2096 persons were subjected to detailed clinical, radiological and bacteriological investigations. The study revealed a prevalence of bacillary cases to be 2% and radiological cases to be 7.25%, leading to abacillary cases being 5.25%. Prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis among cycle rickshaw-men and hand cart pullers was significantly higher than that found even in the low income group in a sample survey conducted by the Chest Institute in certain pockets of the city of Madras. the Radiology and Bacteriology departments of the Institute of Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases for all their assistance.
