Mediastinal and subcutaneous emphysema, though a known complication of bronchial asthma is not commonly seen. A 14-year old patient, an established case of bronchial asthma for the previous five years, developed sub-cutaneous and mediastinal emphysema during an episode of acute bronchospasm. He was treated conservatively and there was spontaneous absorption of air in ten days.
