AbstractPlasma, erythrocyte and leucocyte free amino nitrogen (F α AN) levels were estimated in bacteriologically proved active cases of pulmonary tuberculosis, arrested cases and controls (15 subjects in each ,group). The effect of a glucose load on these parameters was also studied. In active pulmonary tuberculosis, plasma and leucocyte F α AN levels were decreased while erythrocyte F α AN concentration remained unaltered when compared with the controls and with the group of arrested cases. The glucose load led to fall in the levels of plasma F α AN in all the three groups. The possible mechanism (s) for the low levels of plasma and leucocyte F α AN in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis is discussed.
