Abstract

Among the Traditional Indian systems of Medicine, Siddha is being practiced in the Tamil speaking areas of South India. The Materia Medica of Siddha is divided into three major classifications namely Vegetable kingdom, Metals & Minerals and Animal Kingdom. In the Animal origin, Muthu Chippi (Mytilus margaritiferus shell) comes under Marine products. The synonyms, sources and characters of Muthu Chippi has been mentioned. In addition the action, preparation of Parpam and its uses according to Traditional Indian Medicine is also discussed.
