Abstract

The Chikungunya disease has recently gripped Nagpur besides various parts of India. The disease is assuming deadly proportions as recent deaths have been ascribed to this viral disease. The viral fever transmitted by mosquitoes such as Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus has spread in Vidarbha in the districts of Akola, Amravati, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara and Buldhana. In Nagpur district alone, it has spread in 500 villages out of 1500 in less than a month. Today it is estimated that up to 1,35,000 people are suffering from Chikungunya.
