AbstractForty seven patients suffering from tuberculous and malignant pleural effusions have been studied. Peripheral blood T-lymphocyte percentage of tubercular cases was significantly higher in comparison to control and malignant cases. Absolute T-cell counts in blood were significantly lower than in the pleural fluid of both types of patients. Results with respect to B-cells substantiate the observation that these cells do not play an important role in the defence against tumours and tubercle bacilli. There was no relationship between tuberculin response and T & B cell counts of tubercular patients.
