Full text available as: AbstractNon acid fast cell wall deficient variants of M. tuberculosis have been found in the
caseous lesions of tuberculous patients. These variants can be stained by special stains. They do
not grow on media used for the growth of tubercle bacilli. When injected into animals, they do
not give tuberculin reactions; only granulomatous lesions are produced. They can be separated
from parent forms by differential centrifugation. When injected into animals, made immune-deficient
by cyclophosphatmide or Freunds adjuvant, they revert to parent form and produce tuberculosis. | EPrint Type: | Article |
