Abstract

Kalnar parpam is used in Siddha system of medicine for various diseases like dental diseases, Vatha diseases (like Arthritis) Genito urinary disorders (like dysuria, oliguria, spermaturia etc). Carrageenin induced rat paw oedema, method of winter et al (1962) was employed. Paw volume was measured by plethysmograph. The maximum anti-inflammatory effect produced by Kalnar parpam in the dose of 40mg/kg was found to be lesser than the effect produced by phenylbutazone 100mg/kg body weight. Hence the present study revealed that kalnar parpam is having anti-inflammatory activity.
