AbstractLiquorice has been used in medicine for more than 4000 years. In traditional Siddha system of medicine, liquorice is used as a demulcent, expectorant, anti-tussive, laxative and sweetener. This paper deals with all the aspects of Glycyrrhiza glabra such as Habitat, adulterants, phyto chemistry, actions, traditional uses, pharmaco kinetic studies, cautions etc.
