A case of chronic meningitis due to Mycobacteriwn fortuitum - third biovar, and atypical mycobacterium, is reported for the first time from India. The infection occurred following traumatic otitis media of the left ear. The organisms were resistant to the classical antituberculous drugs and sensitive to Gentamicin. The patient responded well to intrathecal Gentamicin therapy.
