Abstract

4,855 patients were investigated in the present series from April, 1953 to March, 1955. Among the 4,855 cases 26 proved positive to the histoplasmin test alone (0.53%). 3,881 cases to tuberculin alone (79.93%) 33 to both histoplasmin and tuberculin (0.67%) and 915 were non-reactors to both (18.84%). Of these 26 cases that proved positive exclusively to the histoplasma antigen, 14 were cases of pulmonary calcifications, three were cases of pulmonary infiltrations, in one there was enlarged mediastinal shadow on the right side and in eight no definite lung infiltrations or calcifications were detected. No histoplasma capsulatum could be isolated by different laboratory methods in any of these cases.
